Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic procedure: even a powerful warrior like Bhishma acts through respectful leave-taking and consultation with legitimate authorities (elder/queen-mother, ministers, Brahmins, and priests). Ethical action is shown as disciplined, socially accountable, and aligned with established roles.

Bhishma narrates that he formally takes leave of Satyavatī (called Kālī/Gandhavatī) and also of the court’s ministers, Brahmins, and royal priests—marking a transition to the next step in his account within the Amba-related episode.
