सो5सि कर्ण तथा जात: पाण्डो: पुत्रोडसि धर्मतः । निग्रहाद् धर्मशास्त्राणामेहि राजा भविष्यसि,कर्ण! तुम्हारा जन्म भी इसी प्रकार हुआ है; (तुम कुन्तीके ही कन्यावस्थामें उत्पन्न हुए पुत्र हो) अतः तुम भी धर्मानुसार पाण्डुके ही पुत्र हो। इसलिये आओ, धर्मशास्त्रोंके निश्चयके अनुसार तुम्हीं राजा होओगे
so 'si karṇa tathā jātaḥ pāṇḍoḥ putro 'si dharmataḥ | nigrahād dharmaśāstrāṇām ehi rājā bhaviṣyasi, karṇa ||
«ເຈົ້າແມ່ນ ກັນນະ, ເກີດມາດ້ວຍວິທີນັ້ນເທົ່າກັນ; ແລະຕາມກົດແຫ່ງທຳ ເຈົ້າແມ່ນລູກຂອງປານດຸແທ້. ດັ່ງນັ້ນ ຈົ່ງມາ—ຕາມຄຳຕັດສິນອັນແນ່ນອນຂອງທຳມະສາດ ເຈົ້າຈະເປັນກະສັດ, ໂອ ກັນນະ».
वायुदेव उवाच
Dharma is presented as a normative authority that can determine social and political legitimacy: if one’s status is established ‘dharmataḥ’ (by dharma), then rightful duty and rightful claim (here, kingship) should be accepted even when personally difficult.
Vāyudeva addresses Karṇa, asserting that by dharma he is to be regarded as Pāṇḍu’s son, and urges him to come forward and accept the kingship that would follow from that lawful recognition—an attempt to redirect Karṇa’s allegiance and the impending conflict.
