युद्धे येन महादेव: साक्षात् संतोषित: शिव: । तमजेयमनाधृष्यं विजेतुं जिष्णुमच्युतम् । आशंससीह समरे वीरमर्जुनमूर्जितम्
yuddhe yena mahādevaḥ sākṣāt santoṣitaḥ śivaḥ | tam ajeyam anādhṛṣyaṃ vijetuṃ jiṣṇum acyutam | āśaṃsasīha samare vīram arjunam ūrjitam ||

वैशम्पायन उवाच
True martial authority is not merely physical strength but dharmic steadfastness and divine approval earned through disciplined valor. The verse underscores that a warrior who has pleased Śiva through prowess and right conduct is not easily overcome, making arrogant expectations of victory ethically and strategically misguided.
Vaiśaṃpāyana highlights Arjuna’s exceptional status: he has already won the direct satisfaction of Śiva in battle and is therefore portrayed as unconquerable and unassailable. The statement rebukes the opposing side’s confidence, calling it astonishing that they still imagine defeating such a hero in the coming war.
