भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical-spiritual ideal that the pursuit of moksha (liberation) should be guided by humility, disciplined conduct (vinaya), and respectful approach to a qualified teacher; seeking śreyas (the highest good) is presented as superior to merely worldly aims.
Bhishma narrates that Shuka, intent on liberation, approaches his father and guru Vyasa, offers respectful salutations, and begins to speak—setting the stage for instruction on the path to the highest welfare.
