प्रमाणमप्रमाणं य: कुर्यान्न्मोहवशं गत: । भृत्यो वा यदि वा पुत्रस्तपस्वी वाथ कश्नन
pramāṇam apramāṇaṁ yaḥ kuryān mohavaśaṁ gataḥ | bhṛtyo vā yadi vā putras tapasvī vātha kaścana ||

व्यास उवाच
The verse warns that delusion can invert one’s moral compass—making the true seem false and the false seem true. Such confusion about pramāṇa (reliable standards of truth and right conduct) is a fundamental threat to dharma, regardless of a person’s social role or outward appearance of holiness.
In Śānti Parva’s instruction on dharma, Vyāsa is speaking in a didactic mode, emphasizing that ethical discernment must be grounded in valid standards. He stresses that even those close to us (servant or son) or those revered (an ascetic) can err if overcome by moha.
