वसिष्ठ उवाच
As a concluding colophon, the line primarily frames the teaching context: the Mokṣadharma portion of Śānti Parva presents liberation-oriented instruction through dialogue. The emphasis is that the preceding discussion belongs to the ethical-philosophical tradition of mokṣa—right knowledge, detachment, and inner peace—rather than ritual or warfare.
The text is not advancing the plot but closing a unit: it announces that the 306th chapter, centered on the dialogue involving Vāyiṣṭha and Karāla Janaka within Mokṣadharma of Śānti Parva, has ended. Such a closure helps readers locate the discourse within the larger structure of the Mahābhārata.
