Adhyāya 240: Indriya–Manas–Buddhi–Ātman — The Inner Hierarchy and Restraint (इन्द्रिय-मनस्-बुद्धि-आत्म-क्रमः)
पज्चेन्द्रियाणि संधाय मनसि स्थापयेद् यतिः । यदैतान्यवतिष्ठन्ति मन:षष्ठान्यथात्मनि
pañcendriyāṇi saṃdhāya manasi sthāpayet yatiḥ | yadāitāny avatiṣṭhanti manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhāny athātmani, sattva-saṃsevanād dhīro nidrām ucchettum arhati |
ວະຍາສະ ກ່າວວ່າ: “ໃຫ້ນັກບວດຮວບຮວມອິນທຣີຍ 5 ປະການ ແລະ ວາງໃຫ້ສະຖິດຢູ່ໃນໃຈ. ເມື່ອພວກມັນ—ພ້ອມດ້ວຍໃຈເປັນອັນທີ 6—ຕັ້ງມັ່ນຢູ່ໃນອາດຕະມັນ (Self) ແລ້ວ, ຜູ້ມັ່ນຄົງ ໂດຍການບໍລິບູນສັດຕະວະ (sattva—ຄວາມແຈ້ງໃສ ແລະ ຄວາມບໍລິສຸດ) ຈຶ່ງເໝາະສົມທີ່ຈະຕັດຂາດຄວາມງ່ວງນອນ (ຄວາມທຶບທື່ນ).”
व्यास उवाच
Restrain the five senses and stabilize them in the mind; when senses and mind become steady in the Self, cultivating sattva enables one to overcome torpor (sleep) and advance in yogic discipline.
In the didactic setting of Śānti Parva, Vyāsa instructs on inner practice: the renunciant is advised to collect the senses, fix them in the mind, and through sattva-oriented living attain wakeful clarity and self-mastery.
