वायुदेव उवाच
A person becomes universally respected through inner steadiness and ethical restraint: not being absorbed in sensual pursuits, avoiding self-praise, remaining free from envy, and speaking gently and sweetly.
Vāyudeva is describing the qualities of an exemplary person, highlighting behavioral markers—detachment from pleasures, humility, non-jealousy, and courteous speech—and explaining that these virtues naturally lead to honor in society.
