मृत्यु-काल-प्रबोधनम् (Instruction on Mortality, Time, and Truth) — Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 169
प्रादात् तस्मै स विप्राय वस्त्र च सदृशं॑ नवम् । नारीं चापि वयोपेतां भर्त्रां विरहितां तथा,ब्राह्मणने उसीके घर जाकर भिक्षाके लिये याचना की। दस्युने ब्राह्मणको रहनेके लिये एक घर देकर वर्षभर निर्वाह करनेके योग्य अन्नकी भिक्षाका प्रबन्ध कर दिया, उपयुक्त नया वस्त्र दिया और उसकी सेवामें एक युवती दासी भी दे दी, जो उस समय पतिसे रहित थी
prādāt tasmai sa viprāya vastraṃ ca sadṛśaṃ navam | nārīṃ cāpi vayopetāṃ bhartṛ-vihitāṃ tathā ||
ດາສຍຸນັ້ນໄດ້ໃຫ້ເສື້ອຜ້າໃໝ່ທີ່ເໝາະສົມແກ່ພຣາຫມັນ. ນອກນັ້ນຍັງມອບແມ່ຍິງຜູ້ເຕັມວັຍຄົນໜຶ່ງ—ໃນເວລານັ້ນບໍ່ມີຜົວ—ໃຫ້ຢູ່ຮັບໃຊ້ດ້ວຍ.
भीष्म उवाच
Dharma can manifest through concrete acts of support—food, shelter, clothing, and protection of the vulnerable—sometimes even from unexpected people; ethical worth is measured by conduct, not merely by social label or occupation.
A brahmin approaches for alms; the giver provides him with a suitable new garment and also assigns a mature, husbandless woman as an attendant, illustrating extensive hospitality and provision for the guest’s maintenance.
