वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the cosmic scale of the events being narrated: not only humans but also major classes of divine and semi-divine beings are present. Ethically, it frames the war narrative as occurring under the gaze of the entire moral and cosmic order, implying heightened accountability for adharma and greater weight to righteous conduct.
Vaiśampāyana lists the various celestial and supernatural beings who are present as witnesses/participants in the scene—Rudras, Ādityas, Siddhas, nāgas, Dānavas, birds—culminating with Brahmā (with his sons) and Viṣṇu, emphasizing a grand divine assembly around the unfolding events.
