Duryodhana’s Final Condition, Lamentation, and the Night’s Report
वयमेव त्रयो राजन् गच्छन्तं परमां गतिम्
vayameva trayo rājan gacchantaṃ paramāṃ gatim |
ສັນຊະຍະ ກ່າວວ່າ: «ໂອ ພະຣາຊາ! ເມື່ອພະອົງກໍາລັງໄປສູ່ສະພາບອັນສູງສຸດ ພວກເຮົາສາມຄົນກັບບໍ່ອາດຕາມພະອົງໄປໄດ້. ເພາະເຫດນີ້ ພວກເຮົາຈະຖືກພົ້ນຈາກທັງສະຫວັນ ແລະ ລາບຜົນໃນໂລກ ພ້ອມທັງລະລຶກຄຸນງາມຄວາມດີຂອງພະອົງ ແລະຖືກເຜົາໃນໄຟແຫ່ງຄວາມໂສກ ທັງກາງວັນກາງຄືນ.»
संजय उवाच
The verse frames ethical consequence in relational terms: failing to accompany or uphold a righteous elder/king at the decisive moment leads to loss of both transcendent reward (svarga) and worldly well-being (artha), leaving only remorseful remembrance of the other’s merit.
Sañjaya addresses the king, saying that as the king proceeds toward the ‘highest destiny,’ the speaker and two others are not able or not destined to follow; they foresee themselves left behind, deprived of reward and prosperity, consumed by grief while recalling the king’s virtuous deeds.
