The verse highlights steadfastness to a chosen duty: once a martial vow is taken, abandoning the fight while life remains is portrayed as a breach of resolve. The uniform red attire and ornaments function as ethical and psychological markers of commitment to the warrior code (kṣatriya-dharma) and readiness to face death.
Sañjaya describes a group of warriors who have collectively pledged not to withdraw from battle. He notes their outward appearance—gold-wrought banners and red clothing and adornments—emphasizing their unified, determined posture as the conflict intensifies in Droṇa Parva.
