Adhyāya 113: Karṇa–Bhīma Śaravarṣa and the Battlefield Aftermath (कर्णभीमशरवर्षः)
ācāryo hi bhṛśaṃ rājan nigrahe tava gṛdhyati
The verse highlights the ethical role of a preceptor: true guidance may take the form of restraint (nigraha), curbing a ruler’s impulses for the sake of right conduct and long-term welfare rather than flattering immediate desire.
Sañjaya reports to the blind king that the Ācārya is strongly intent on checking the king’s side—signaling a moment where the preceptor’s authority and strategic-moral discipline are being asserted amid the pressures of the war.
