In crisis, people seek a dependable support—here symbolized by Karṇa as a ‘boat’ for crossing danger. The verse highlights how the fall of a vow-true hero forces a moral and strategic recalibration, revealing dependence and the search for a new pillar of strength.
After a mighty, truth-steadfast warrior has been killed, the Kauravas (Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons) place their hopes on Karṇa, turning to him as their chief reliance—like travelers who, wanting to cross a river, look for a boat.
