The verse highlights how quickly structured order (vyūha) collapses under the pressure of intense combat, turning strategy into chaotic entanglement (vyatikara). Ethically, it underscores the human cost of war: once formations break, discrimination between sides becomes harder, and violence escalates through confusion.
Sañjaya reports that during the fierce clash of heroes, the arranged battle formation was disrupted. As a result, the troops of all sides became thoroughly mixed together, producing a large-scale melee rather than orderly, separated lines.
