Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the fragility of sheer military power: even a vast army can be rapidly shattered. In the Mahābhārata’s ethical frame, this points to the limits of force when opposed by steadfast resolve, strategy, and the larger moral-cosmic order (dharma and destiny).

Sañjaya narrates that Kṛṣṇa (called Yādavanandana) sees the troops being broken and scattered on the battlefield, setting up Kṛṣṇa’s attentive, guiding role amid the turning tides of combat.
