Educational Q&A

The verse models dhārmic learning through disciplined inquiry: a king seeks clarity from a qualified teacher about the consequences and next steps following a divine act (the granting of a boon). It emphasizes that ethical understanding in the Mahābhārata unfolds through attentive questioning and sequential narration.

Janamejaya asks the narrator (addressed as ‘best of brāhmaṇas’) to continue the story: after Kṛṣṇa granted a boon to the ascetic Uttanka, what did Kṛṣṇa do next? The question functions as a transition cue to the subsequent events, traditionally connected with Kṛṣṇa’s movements and the unfolding aftermath of the war.
