Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Affectionate Disposition toward the Pāṇḍavas

The verse highlights dharmic restraint and solidarity in suffering: grief is acknowledged openly (tears, gathering around Kuntī) yet held within the bounds of composure and mutual support, emphasizing compassion and shared responsibility in times of loss.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, the Kuru women—already burdened by the devastation of the war—stand around Kuntī, weeping. The scene underscores a communal lament, with Gāndhārī and the others bearing an immense inner weight of sorrow.
