दाश उवाच
The verse highlights the limits of exhaustive enumeration and the necessity of narrative selection: history becomes intelligible by focusing on key figures whose actions shape the larger ethical and social consequences.
The speaker explains that the assembled kings and warriors are too many to list completely, even over vast time; therefore only the foremost are named, since their stories provide the main threads by which the Mahābhārata’s account is unfolded.
