FAQs

This verse shows the Purana’s vision of cosmic order: each direction is entrusted to an anointed guardian-king, reflecting a structured universe governed through delegated sovereignty.

By describing consecration (abhiṣeka) and directional guardianship, Parāśara frames rulership as a sacred office aligned with dharma, where authority is installed to protect and stabilize the world.

Even when Vishnu is not named in the verse, the ordered installation of guardians implies a universe ultimately grounded in Vishnu’s supreme governance—cosmic hierarchy functioning as an expression of His sustaining power.
