मम प्रमाणमालोक्य मामकं च पदत्रयम् संप्रयच्छस्व दैत्येन्द्र नाधिकं रक्षितुं क्षमः

Transliteration

mama pramāṇamālokya māmakaṃ ca padatrayam saṃprayacchasva daityendra nādhikaṃ rakṣituṃ kṣamaḥ

Translation

ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಮಾಣವನ್ನು (ಚಿಕ್ಕ ದೇಹವನ್ನು) ನೋಡಿ, ನನಗೆ ಯೋಗ್ಯವಾದ ಮೂರು ಹೆಜ್ಜೆಗಳಷ್ಟು ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ದಯಪಾಲಿಸು, ಓ ದೈತ್ಯೇಂದ್ರ; ಅದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಲು ಸಮರ್ಥನಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

Why does Vāmana ask for only “three steps” and mention his small measure (pramāṇa)?

What does “not capable of protecting (rakṣituṃ)” imply here?
