तं प्राह शंभुर्द्विज पश्य मह्यं भस्म प्रवृत्तो ऽङ्गुलितो ऽतिशुक्लम् संताडनादेव न च प्रहर्षो ममास्ति नृनं हि भवान् प्रमत्तः
taṃ prāha śaṃbhurdvija paśya mahyaṃ bhasma pravṛtto 'ṅgulito 'tiśuklam saṃtāḍanādeva na ca praharṣo mamāsti nṛnaṃ hi bhavān pramattaḥ
ಶಂಭು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಓ ದ್ವಿಜ, ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋಡು; ನನ್ನ ಬೆರಳಿನಿಂದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶುಭ್ರವಾದ ಭಸ್ಮ ಹೊರಹೊಮ್ಮುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಆದರೂ ಈ ಪ್ರಕಟನೆ ಮಾತ್ರದಿಂದ ನನಗೆ ಹರ್ಷವಿಲ್ಲ; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನೀನು ಮನುಷ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮತ್ತನಾಗಿ (ಅಹಂಕಾರಮತ್ತನಾಗಿ) ಬಿಟ್ಟಿದ್ದೀ.
