Role: nurturing
It teaches disciplined saguna-upāsanā: the deity is approached through sankalpa (focused intention), a prepared seat (āsana), and āvāhana (invocation), training the mind to become steady and devotional—an aid toward purification and, ultimately, Shiva-oriented liberation.
Though Skanda is invoked here, the method reflects the Shiva Purana’s broader saguna ritual grammar used for Shiva/Linga worship as well—establishing a sacred locus, forming the divine presence in a consecrated support, and worshipping with devotion as a step toward realizing Shiva as Pati (the Lord) beyond forms.
A structured pūjā practice: choose the Vāyu-directional lotus-seat, perform sankalpa, set up Skanda’s āsana, create/visualize the mūrti, and perform āvāhana; it also implies meditative visualization (bhāvanā) as the inner counterpart of the external rite.
