Narratorial colophon (textual closure marker) within the Sūta–Śaunaka dialogue frame

Concept: Śāstra is preserved through disciplined transmission (saṃvāda) and chaptered pedagogy; brāhmaṇa-māhātmya is framed as a dharma-supporting teaching.

Application: Treat spiritual learning as lineage-based: study with context, cite sources, and complete teachings rather than consuming fragments.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Type: forest

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A manuscript-like closing tableau: Sūta stands or sits at the center of a sage-assembly, palm-leaf folios in hand, as Śaunaka presides. The air feels settled, like the final cadence of a recitation, with the chapter title visually inscribed on a hanging scroll or carved wooden panel.","primary_figures":["Sūta","Śaunaka","assembly of ṛṣis"],"setting":"Naimiṣāraṇya forest sacrificial hall with kusa mats, yajña-kuṇḍa embers, and stacked manuscripts.","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["smoldering ember orange","aged parchment beige","forest green","sandalwood brown","golden brass"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Sūta reciter and Śaunaka in a formal sabhā, gold leaf arch framing the scene, gem-like ornamentation on ritual vessels, rich maroon and green drapery, and a visible scroll bearing the chapter title in stylized Devanāgarī.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate forest assembly with fine-lined sages, a small fire altar, and a delicate banner showing the colophon; cool greens, soft browns, and gentle shading, with refined calm expressions.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: frontal, iconic sages with bold outlines; the colophon rendered as a decorative panel; warm reds and yellows dominate, with stylized foliage and ritual implements.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: a symmetrical composition of sages around a central manuscript pedestal, ornate floral borders, lotus rosettes, and peacock motifs; deep blue ground with gold highlights to evoke sacred textual completion."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"meditative","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"slow-meditative","voice_tone":"serene","sound_elements":["conch shell (soft closing)","temple bells fading","crackling embers","silence"]}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: caturdaśo'dhyāyaḥ = caturdaśaḥ + adhyāyaḥ (visarga sandhi: ḥ + a → o').

FAQs

It functions as a colophon: a formal closing line that identifies the Purāṇa section (Brahma-khaṇḍa), the dialogue frame (Sūta–Śaunaka), and the chapter title and number.

It indicates that the surrounding discourse is presented within the well-known frame where Sūta narrates Purāṇic material in response to Śaunaka’s inquiries.

The title signals a focus on the dignity, role, and religious significance of brāhmaṇas, typically emphasizing ethical conduct, reverence for learning, and dharma-centered social ideals.
