Āraṇyaka-parva Adhyāya 44 — Arjuna’s Entry into Nandana and Audience with Indra
गीतवादित्रनृत्यानि भूय एवादिदेश ह । तथापि नालभच्छर्म तपस्वी द्यूतकारितम्,चित्रसेनने उन्हें गीत, वाद्य और नृत्यकी बार-बार शिक्षा दी तो भी द्यूतजनित अपमानका स्मरण करके तपस्वी अर्जुनको तनिक भी शान्ति नहीं मिली
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
gītavāditranṛtyāni bhūya evādi deśa ha |
tathāpi nālabhaccharma tapasvī dyūtakāritam ||
ಚಿತ್ರಸೇನನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಮರುಮರು ಗೀತ, ವಾದ್ಯ, ನೃತ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬೋಧಿಸಿದನು; ಆದರೂ ಜೂಜಿನಿಂದ ಉಂಟಾದ ಅವಮಾನಸ್ಮರಣೆ ಕಾರಣ ತಪಸ್ವಿಯಾದ ಅರ್ಜುನನಿಗೆ ಅಲ್ಪವೂ ಶಾಂತಿ ದೊರಕಲಿಲ್ಲ.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
External accomplishments and refined skills cannot by themselves heal inner wounds; until the ethical injury and dishonor caused by adharma (here, the dice-game) are faced and integrated, the mind may remain unquiet despite training and discipline.
During the forest-exile setting, Chitrasena keeps teaching Arjuna the arts of song, instrumental music, and dance; however, Arjuna—described as an ascetic—still cannot find peace because he continues to remember the disgrace that arose from the gambling episode.
