अर्थेन तु समो नार्थो यत्र लभ्येत नोदय: । न तत्र विपण: कार्य: खरकण्डूयनं हि तत्,“जहाँ अर्थका उपयोग करनेपर उससे अधिक या समान अर्थकी प्राप्ति न हो वहाँ उस अर्थको नहीं लगाना चाहिये, क्योंकि वह (परस्पर) गधोंके शरीरको खुजलानेके समान व्यर्थ है
arthena tu samo nārtho yatra labhyeta nodayāḥ | na tatra vipaṇaḥ kāryaḥ kharakāṇḍūyanaṃ hi tat ||
ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಯಲ್ಲಿ ಧನವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿದರೂ ಲಾಭವೂ ಸಿಗದೆ, ಸಮಾನ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲವೂ ದೊರಕದೋ, ಅಲ್ಲಿ ವ್ಯವಹಾರ ಮಾಡಬಾರದು; ಅದು ಕತ್ತೆಗಳು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಮೈ ಕೆರಕಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ.
