Draupadī on Action, Fate, and Human Effort
evam eva pṛthag dṛṣṭvā dharmārthau kāmam eva ca
The verse emphasizes discernment: dharma (ethical duty), artha (worldly welfare), and kāma (desire/pleasure) should be understood as distinct aims, each with its own scope, so that one does not let desire or gain override righteousness.
Vaiśampāyana continues the narration by framing a reflective point: the listener is urged to view the human goals—dharma, artha, and kāma—separately and clearly, as part of the ongoing moral discussion in the Vana Parva.
