True ‘gain’ is framed as dharmic service: honoring the twice-born and acting for the ruler’s welfare while remaining within rightful authority. The verse links personal merit to respectful conduct and beneficial action rather than self-centered profit.
A woman speaker (reported by Vaiśampāyana) addresses a king, stating that her greatest benefit lies in staying under his command, serving brāhmaṇas, and thereby continually promoting his good—presenting loyalty and dharmic service as her chosen role.
