Araṇi Lost to the Deer: Pāṇḍavas Pursue to Preserve Agnihotra (अरणी-हरण प्रसङ्गः)
वरं वृणीष्वाश्वपते मद्रराज यदीप्सितम् । न प्रमादश्न धर्मेषु कर्तव्यस्ते कथठचन,मद्रराज अश्वपते! तुम्हें जो अभीष्ट हो, वह वर माँगो। धर्मोंके पालनमें तुम्हें कभी किसी तरह भी प्रमाद नहीं करना चाहिये
varaṁ vṛṇīṣvāśvapate madrarāja yad īpsitam | na pramādaś ca dharmeṣu kartavyas te kathaṁcana, madrarāja aśvapate ||
ಹೇ ಮದ್ರರಾಜ ಅಶ್ವಪತೇ! ನಿನಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾದ ವರವನ್ನು ಬೇಡು. ಆದರೆ ಧರ್ಮಗಳ ಆಚರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀನು ಯಾವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲೂ ಅಲಕ್ಷ್ಯ ಮಾಡಬಾರದು.
युधिछिर उवाच
Even when granting favors or negotiating outcomes, one must insist on unwavering attentiveness to dharma; moral carelessness (pramāda) is portrayed as a primary cause of ethical downfall.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Aśvapati, the Madra king, inviting him to choose a boon, while simultaneously laying down a firm condition: he must not lapse into negligence regarding righteous conduct.
