अर्जुनस्य वधे क्रूरां करोति सम तदा मतिम् । इधर कर्ण भी नरकासुरकी अन्तरात्मासे आविष्टचित्त होनेके कारण अर्जुनका वध करनेके लिये क्रूरतापूर्ण संकल्प करने लगा
arjunasya vadhe krūrāṁ karoti saṁ tadā matim |
ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನು ಅರ್ಜುನನ ವಧೆಗೆ ಕ್ರೂರವೂ ನಿರ್ದಯವೂ ಆದ ನಿರ್ಣಯವನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡನು. ನರಕಾಸುರಸಂಬಂಧಿ ಪ್ರಭಾವದಿಂದ ಅಂತರಾತ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಆವಿಷ್ಟಚಿತ್ತನಾಗಿ ಕರ್ಣನು ಅರ್ಜುನನನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲು ಕ್ರೂರ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪಕ್ಕೆ ತಿರುಗಿದನು.
