Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the emotional and ethical weight of marital companionship: even when separation is driven by legitimate household duty, it is portrayed as difficult and undesirable, underscoring the value placed on spousal presence and mutual dependence within gṛhastha-dharma.

Vaiśampāyana reports a sentiment (spoken in context by a woman) that she cannot bear being without her husband; even when he departs for some necessary family-related purpose, the separation is not acceptable to her.
