चित्रसेन-समागमः / The Engagement with Citrasena and the Gandharvas
सर्वथा भर्तरहितं न ममेष्टं कथंचन । यदा प्रवसते भर्ता कुट॒म्बार्थेन केनचित्
sarvathā bhartar-ahitaṃ na mama iṣṭaṃ kathaṃcana | yadā pravasate bhartā kuṭumbārthena kenacit ||
ಯಾವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಪತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಇರುವುದನ್ನು ನಾನು ಇಷ್ಟಪಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನನ್ನ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಯಾವಾಗಲಾದರೂ ಪ್ರವಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊರಟರೆ, ಅವರಿಂದ ಬೇರ್ಪಡುವ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾನು ಅಂಗೀಕರಿಸಲಾರೆ.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the emotional and ethical weight of marital companionship: even when separation is driven by legitimate household duty, it is portrayed as difficult and undesirable, underscoring the value placed on spousal presence and mutual dependence within gṛhastha-dharma.
Vaiśampāyana reports a sentiment (spoken in context by a woman) that she cannot bear being without her husband; even when he departs for some necessary family-related purpose, the separation is not acceptable to her.
