Duryodhana’s Śaraṇāgati and the Pāṇḍavas’ Resolve
Gandharva Encounter
atha daityabalād ghorān niṣpapāta mahābalaḥ
The verse highlights how overwhelming, fearsome power (here, the Daityas’ force) can precipitate sudden, decisive movement; ethically, it cautions that brute force can drive events, but true strength is shown in how one responds—steadfastly and purposefully—amid terror and pressure.
In Markandeya’s narration, a mighty figure abruptly springs forth, compelled or propelled by the dreadful strength of the Daityas, indicating an escalation and a sharp shift into action within the conflict.
