रुद्रं सत्कर्मभिर्मत्या: पूजयन्तीह दैवतम् । शिवमित्येव य॑ प्राहुरीशं रुद्रे पितामहम्
rudraṃ satkarmabhir matyāḥ pūjayantīha daivatam | śivam ity eva yaṃ prāhur īśaṃ rudre pitāmaham ||
ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು ಸತ್ಕರ್ಮಗಳಿಂದ ರುದ್ರ ದೇವತೆಯನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವನನ್ನೇ ಅವರು ‘ಶಿವ’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ—ಈಶ್ವರ, ಪರಮಾಧಿಪತಿ—ಮತ್ತು ರುದ್ರನೊಳಗೆ ಅಂತರ್ನಿಹಿತ ಪಿತಾಮಹ (ಆದಿ-ಕಾರಣ) ರೂಪವಾಗಿಯೂ.
