Arrogance, Boons, and Nimitta
अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीमा गाथा देवैरुदाह्वता: । मुनिरासीत् पुरा पुत्र बालधिनाम वीर्यवान्,इस विषयमें विज्ञजन देवताओंकी कही हुई यह गाथा सुनाया करते हैं--प्राचीनकालमें बालधि नामसे प्रसिद्ध एक शक्तिशाली मुनि थे
atrāpy udāharantīmāṃ gāthā devair udāhṛtāḥ | munir āsīt purā putra bāladhināma vīryavān |
ಭರದ್ವಾಜನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಈ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ದೇವತೆಗಳು ಉಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದ ಈ ಗಾಥೆಯನ್ನು ಪಂಡಿತರು ಉದಾಹರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಪುರಾತನ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಲಧಿ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನ ವೀರ್ಯವಂತ ಋಷಿಯೊಬ್ಬನಿದ್ದನು.
भरद्वाज उवाच
The passage frames the upcoming account as a dharma-illustrating exemplum: authoritative wisdom is transmitted through remembered gāthās, even those attributed to the gods, and ethical instruction is often conveyed through ancient narratives about sages and their power.
Bharadvāja introduces a traditional verse said to have been spoken by the gods and begins an old story: he announces that in ancient times there was a powerful sage named Bāladhī, setting the stage for the episode that follows.
