अवासीदच्च कौन्तेय दत्तमात्रा मही तदा । उवाच चापि कुपिता लोकेश्वरमिदं प्रभुम्,कुन्तीकुमार! उनके द्वारा अपना दान होते ही पृथ्वी बहुत दुःखी हो गयी और कुपित हो लोकनाथ प्रभु ब्रह्मासे इस प्रकार बोली--“भगवन्! आप मुझे किसी मनुष्यको न सौँपें। यदि मुझे मनुष्यको सौंपेंगे तो वह व्यर्थ होगा, क्योंकि मैं अभी रसातलको चली जाऊँगी'
avāsīdac ca kaunteya dattamātrā mahī tadā | uvāca cāpi kupitā lokeśvaram idaṃ prabhum ||
ಕೌಂತೇಯನೇ! ದಾನಮಾತ್ರವಾದ ಕ್ಷಣದಲ್ಲೇ ಭೂಮಿ ಗಾಢ ವಿಷಾದಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಯಿತು. ಕೋಪಗೊಂಡು ಲೋಕೇಶ್ವರನಾದ ಪರಮ ಪ್ರಭು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನಿಗೆ ಹೀಗೆಂದಳು—“ಭಗವನ್! ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಯಾವ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೂ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಬೇಡಿ; ನನನ್ನು ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೆ ಕೊಟ್ಟರೆ ಆ ದಾನ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಾನು ತಕ್ಷಣವೇ ರಸಾತಲಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿದುಹೋಗುವೆನು.”
