दुष्टोंका दमन करके साधु पुरुषों एवं धर्मका संरक्षण ही इनका कर्तव्य है, ये सारी बातें वेदोंके ज्ञाता नारदजीने समस्त वृष्णिवंशियोंके सम्मुख कही थीं ।।
śaṅkhacakragadāhastaṃ yadā drakṣyasi keśavam | paryādadhānaṃ cāstrāṇi bhīmadhanvānam arjunam, vatsa duryodhana! tadā me vacanaṃ smariṣyasi ||
ದುಷ್ಟರನ್ನು ದಮನಮಾಡಿ ಸಾಧುಜನರನ್ನೂ ಧರ್ಮವನ್ನೂ ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದೇ ಅವರ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವೆಂದು—ವೇದಜ್ಞ ನಾರದರು ಸಮಸ್ತ ವೃಷ್ಣಿವಂಶೀಯರ ಸಮ್ಮುಖದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿದರು. ವತ್ಸ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನ! ಶಂಖ-ಚಕ್ರ-ಗದೆಯನ್ನು ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಡಿದ ಕೇಶವನನ್ನೂ, ಭೀಕರ ಧನುಸ್ಸು ಧರಿಸಿದ ಅರ್ಜುನನು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ನಾನಾವಿಧ ಅಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಎತ್ತಿ ಬಿಡುತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನೂ ನೀನು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ, ನನ್ನ ವಚನಗಳು ನಿನಗೆ ನೆನಪಾಗುವವು।
