परो धर्मात्‌ पाण्डवस्यानृशंस्यं धर्म: परो वित्तचयान्मतो<स्य । सुखप्रिये धर्महीने5नपार्थे5- नुरुध्यते भारत तस्य बुद्धि:,भारत! पाण्डुनन्दन युधिष्ठिरकी दृष्टिमें अन्य धर्मोकी अपेक्षा दया ही परम धर्म है। वे धनसंग्रहकी अपेक्षा धर्मपालनको ही श्रेष्ठ मानते हैं। उनकी बुद्धि धर्मविहीन एवं निष्प्रयोजन सुख तथा प्रिय वस्तुओंका अनुसरण नहीं करती है

paro dharmāt pāṇḍavasyānṛśaṃsyaṃ dharmaḥ paro vittacayān mato 'sya | sukhapriye dharmahīne 'napārthe 'nurudhyate bhārata tasya buddhiḥ ||

ಓ ಭಾರತ, ಪಾಂಡವ ಯುಧಿಷ್ಠಿರನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕರುಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಅಹಿಂಸೆ ಇತರ ಧರ್ಮಗಳಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಪರಮ. ಧನಸಂಚಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಧರ್ಮಾಚರಣೆಯೇ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠವೆಂದು ಅವನು ಮನಗಾಣುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಧರ್ಮವಿಲ್ಲದ, ನಿರರ್ಥಕ ಸುಖಗಳನ್ನೂ ಪ್ರಿಯ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನೂ ಹಿಂಬಾಲಿಸಲು ಅವನ ಬುದ್ಧಿ ಓಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.
