The verse highlights how arrogance and self-deception persist until confronted by unmistakable reality: the Kauravas’ confidence lasts only until they face the concrete signs of Pāṇḍava power (Arjuna’s Gāṇḍīva and Bhīma’s wrath). Ethically, it points to the blindness of adharma—mistaking temporary ease and lack of opposition for true success.
Sañjaya describes the Kauravas’ state of mind as war approaches: they feel secure while the feared signals of battle are absent. Duryodhana, in particular, assumes his political aim (securing the kingdom) is already achieved so long as he has not yet witnessed Bhīma’s furious readiness to fight and has not heard the battlefield roar of Arjuna’s bow.
