Sanjaya’s Counsel Toward Conciliation

sañjaya uvāca | na yujyate karma yuṣmāsu hīnaṃ sattvaṃ hi vo tādṛśaṃ bhīmasenāḥ | uddhāsate hāñjanabinduvat tac chukre vastre yad bhavet kilbiṣaṃ vaḥ ||

Educational Q&A

True nobility and moral strength make ignoble action incompatible; and any real fault in a person of high repute becomes immediately visible, like a black stain on white cloth.

Sañjaya, reporting events and assessments in the Udyoga Parva context of impending war and negotiations, praises the Pāṇḍavas’ character, asserting that wrongdoing cannot be credibly attributed to them and would be obvious if it existed.
