Shloka 33

भीष्मस्वप्न-स्मृत्युपाख्यानम् | Bhīṣma’s Dream-Linked Recollection of the Paraśurāma Combat

विचरामि महीं देवि यथा हन्यामहं नृपम्‌ । एतद्‌ व्रतफलं देवि परमस्मिन्‌ यथा हि मे,*देवि! मैं इस भूतलपर विभिन्न तीर्थोमें इसीलिये विचर रही हूँ कि योग्य बनकर मैं स्वयं ही भीष्मको मार सकूँ। भगवति! इस जगत्‌में मेरे व्रत और तपस्याका यही सर्वोत्तम फल है, जैसा मैंने आपको बताया है”

vicarāmi mahīṃ devi yathā hanyām ahaṃ nṛpam | etad vrata-phalaṃ devi paramasmin yathā hi me |

“ದೇವಿ! ನಾನು ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೀರ್ಥತೀರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ಸಂಚರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ—ಯೋಗ್ಯಳಾಗಿ ನಾನು ಸ್ವತಃ ಆ ನೃಪನನ್ನು (ಭೀಷ್ಮನನ್ನು) ಸಂಹರಿಸಬಲ್ಲೆನೆಂಬುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ. ಭಗವತಿ! ನಾನು ನಿನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದಂತೆ, ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ವ್ರತ-ತಪಸ್ಸಿನ ಪರಮ ಫಲ ಇದೇ.”
