Amba–Rama–Bhishma Dialogue on Vow and Refuge

'भाविनि! मैं किसी तरह ब्राह्मणोंकी आज्ञाके बिना हथियार नहीं उठाऊँगा, ऐसी मैंने प्रतिज्ञा कर रखी है' ।।

Transliteration

bhīṣma uvāca— bhāvini! ahaṃ kathaṃcid brāhmaṇānām ājñāṃ vinā śastrāṇi na gṛhṇīyām iti me pratijñā kṛtā. ambovāca— mama duḥkhaṃ bhagavatā vyapaneyaṃ yatas tataḥ; tac ca bhīṣma-prasūtaṃ me, taṃ jahi īśvara mā ciram.

Translation

ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಹೇ ಭಾವಿನಿ! ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣರ ಆಜ್ಞೆಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನಾನು ಯಾವ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಶಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿಯುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಇದು ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರತಿಜ್ಞೆ. ಅಂಬೆ ಹೇಳಿದಳು—ಭಗವನ್! ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ದುಃಖವನ್ನು ದೂರಮಾಡಿ. ಈ ದುಃಖಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣ ಭೀಷ್ಮನೇ; ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಪ್ರಭೋ, ವಿಳಂಬವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಅವನನ್ನು ವಧಿಸಿ.
