Pāṇḍava-senā-niryāṇa and Vyūha-vibhāga (पाण्डवसेनानिर्याण तथा व्यूहविभाग)
कुत्सनं वासुदेवस्यथ मम चैव विशेषत: । श्रुत्वा भवन्त: संरब्धा अस्माकं हितकाम्यया
kutsanaṃ vāsudevasya tha mama caiva viśeṣataḥ | śrutvā bhavantaḥ saṃrabdhā asmākaṃ hitakāmyayā ||
ಸಂಜಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ವಾಸುದೇವನನ್ನೂ, ವಿಶೇಷವಾಗಿ ನನ್ನನ್ನೂ, ನಿಂದಿಸಿದ ಮಾತುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಹಿತವನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದ ನೀವು ಕೋಪದಿಂದ ಉರಿದಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ಆ ಪಾಪಿ ದುರ್ಯೋಧನನ ವಚನಗಳನ್ನು ನೀವು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೀರಿ; ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನು ಭಗವಾನ್ ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನನ್ನೂ ನನ್ನನ್ನೂ ಅವಮಾನಿಸಿದ್ದಾನೆ.
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical weight of speech: slander and contempt—especially against the virtuous—provoke righteous indignation in well-wishers. It also shows that true allies respond to adharma (malicious speech) not with indifference but with protective concern for those wronged.
Sañjaya addresses a group of listeners/allies, noting that they have heard Duryodhana’s insulting words. He explains that Duryodhana has particularly reviled Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa) and Sañjaya himself, and that the listeners’ anger arises from their desire for the welfare of Sañjaya’s side.
