मातोवाच सर्वावस्था हि विदुषां तात धर्मार्थकारणात्‌ | तावेवाभिसमीक्ष्याहं संजय त्वामचूचुदम्‌,माता बोली--तात संजय! विद्वानोंकी सारी अवस्था भी धर्म और अर्थके निमित्त ही होती है। उन्हीं दोनोंकी ओर दृष्टि रखकर मैंने भी तुझे युद्धके लिये प्रेरित किया है

mātovāca sarvāvasthā hi viduṣāṃ tāta dharmārthakāraṇāt | tāv evābhisamīkṣyāhaṃ sañjaya tvām acūcudam ||

ತಾಯಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು—ತಾತ ಸಂಜಯ! ಜ್ಞಾನಿಗಳ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗಳೂ ಧರ್ಮಾರ್ಥಗಳ ನಿಮಿತ್ತವೇ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಆ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ನಾನೂ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಯುದ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಿಸಿದೆ.
