नारद उवाच दुर्लभो वै सुहृच्छोता दुर्लभश्न हित: सुहृत्‌ । तिष्ठते हि सुह्ृद्‌ यत्र न बन्धुस्तत्र तिछते

Transliteration

nārada uvāca | durlabho vai suhṛcchrotā durlabhaś ca hitaḥ suhṛt | tiṣṭhate hi suhṛd yatra na bandhustatra tiṣṭhati ||

Translation

ನಾರದನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ನಿಷ್ಕಾಮ ಹಿತವನ್ನು ಬಯಸುವ ಸುಹೃದನ ಮಾತನ್ನು ನಿಜವಾಗಿ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಟ್ಟು ಕೇಳುವ ಶ್ರೋತನು ದುರ್ಲಭನು; ಹಿತವಚನ ಹೇಳುವ ಸುಹೃದನೂ ದುರ್ಲಭನೇ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಮಹಾಸಂಕಟ ಬಂದಾಗ ಅಚಲವಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲುವವನು ಸತ್ಯಮಿತ್ರನೇ; ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕೇವಲ ಬಂಧುಗಳು ನಿಲ್ಲಲಾರರು.
