उतथ्योपदेशः—राजधर्मः, दर्पनिग्रहः, प्रजारक्षणम्

Utathya’s Instruction: Royal Dharma, Restraint of Pride, Protection of Subjects

धनात्‌ स्रवति धर्मो हि धारणाद्‌ वेति निश्चय: । अकार्याणां मनुष्येन्द्र स सीमान्तकर: स्मृत:,नरेन्द्र! धनसे धर्मकी उत्पत्ति होती है। सबको धारण करनेके कारण वह निश्चितरूपसे धर्म कहा गया है। वह धर्म अकर्तव्य (पाप) की सीमाका अन्त करनेवाला माना गया है

dhanāt sravati dharmo hi dhāraṇād veti niścayaḥ | akāryāṇāṁ manuṣyendra sa sīmāntakaraḥ smṛtaḥ ||

ಉತಥ್ಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ನರೇಂದ್ರನೇ! ಧನದಿಂದಲೇ ಧರ್ಮ ಹರಿದುಬರುತ್ತದೆ—ಇದು ನಿಶ್ಚಿತ ನಿರ್ಣಯ. ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಧರಿಸಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಅದನ್ನೇ ನಿಶ್ಚಯವಾಗಿ ‘ಧರ್ಮ’ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮನುಷ್ಯೇಂದ್ರನೇ! ಆ ಧರ್ಮವೇ ಅಕಾರ್ಯ (ಪಾಪ, ನಿಷಿದ್ಧ ಕರ್ಮ)ಗಳಿಗೆ ಗಡಿ ಹಾಕಿ ಅವಕ್ಕೆ ಅಂತ್ಯ ತರುವವನೆಂದು ಸ್ಮರಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ.
