Āśrama-dharma: Duties of the Four Life-Stages (आश्रमधर्मः)
प्रजापतिर्हि वर्णानां दासं शूद्रमकल्पयत् । तस्माच्छुद्रस्य वर्णानां परिचर्या विधीयते
prajāpatir hi varṇānāṃ dāsaṃ śūdram akalpayat | tasmāc chūdrasya varṇānāṃ paricaryā vidhīyate ||
ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿ ಶೂದ್ರನನ್ನು ಇತರ ವರ್ಣಗಳ ಪರಿಚಾರಕನಾಗಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದನು; ಆದಕಾರಣ ಶೂದ್ರನಿಗೆ ಮೂರು ವರ್ಣಗಳ ಸೇವೆ-ಪರಿಚರ್ಯೆಯೇ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವಿಹಿತ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವೆಂದು ವಿಧಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
