वैशम्पायन उवाच
This verse is a colophon rather than a doctrinal statement; its function is to frame the teaching context—royal dharma (rājadharma) as an authoritative instruction (anuśāsana)—and to signal a transition to an illustrative episode (upākhyāna), namely the Paraśurāma narrative, which will serve as a moral-political example within the discourse on kingship.
The chapter concludes, and the text announces that within Śānti Parvan’s rājadharma instruction section, the forty-eighth chapter has ended and the Rāma (Paraśurāma) episode is beginning. It is a structural marker used by the tradition to organize the epic’s internal divisions.
