Vaiśaṃpāyana uvāca: etad dhayaśiro rājann ākhyānaṃ tava kīrtitam | purāṇaṃ vedasamitaṃ yan māṃ tvaṃ paripṛcchasi ||
ರಾಜನೇ! ನೀನು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿದ ಹಯಶಿರ (ಹಯಗ್ರೀವ) ಅವತಾರದ, ವೇದಸಮ್ಮತವಾದ ಆ ಪುರಾತನಾಖ್ಯಾನವನ್ನು ನಾನು ನಿನಗೆ ವರ್ಣಿಸಿದೆನು.
