Atithi’s Direction to the Nāga-sage Padma at Naimiṣa (अतिथ्युपदेशः—नैमिषे पद्मनागोपाख्यानप्रस्तावः)

हैरण्यगर्भाच्च वसिष्ठाद्धिरण्यकशिपु: शापं प्राप्तवान्‌ यस्मात्‌ त्वयान्यो वृतो होता तस्मादसमाप्त-यज्ञस्त्वमपूर्वात्‌ सत्त्वजातादू वर्धं प्राप्स्यसीति तच्छापदानाद्धिरण्यकशिपु: प्राप्तवान्‌ वधम्‌

hairaṇyagarbhācca vasiṣṭāddhiraṇyakaśipuḥ śāpaṃ prāptavān yasmāt tvayānyo vṛto hotā tasmādasamāpta-yajñas tvam apūrvāt sattvajātād ūrdhvaṃ prāpsyasīti tacchāpadānāddhiraṇyakaśipuḥ prāptavān vadham

ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ (ಹಿರಣ್ಯಗರ್ಭನ) ಪುತ್ರ ವಸಿಷ್ಠರಿಂದ ಹಿರಣ್ಯಕಶಿಪುವಿಗೆ ಶಾಪ ಬಂತು; ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಅವನು ವಸಿಷ್ಠರನ್ನು ಅವಮಾನಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬ ಹೋತೃನನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆಮಾಡಿದ್ದನು. ವಸಿಷ್ಠರು ಹೇಳಿದರು—“ನನ್ನನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸಿ ನೀನು ಬೇರೆ ಹೋತೃನನ್ನು ವರಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಈ ಯಜ್ಞ ಮುಗಿಯುವ ಮುನ್ನವೇ ಒಂದು ಅಪೂರ್ವ ಸತ್ತ್ವದ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನ ವಧವಾಗುವುದು.” ಆ ಶಾಪಬಲದಿಂದಲೇ ಹಿರಣ್ಯಕಶಿಪು ತನ್ನ ನಿಯತ ವಧವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದನು।
