Śuka’s Guṇa-Transcendence and Vyāsa’s Consolation (शुकगति-वर्णनम्)

ज्ञानेन कुरुते यत्नं यत्नेन प्राप्पते महत्‌ | महद्‌ द्वन््धप्रमोक्षाय सा सिद्धिरया वयो5तिगा,मनुष्य ज्ञानके द्वारा मुक्ति पानेके लिये यत्न करता है। उस यत्नसे महान्‌ आत्मज्ञानकी प्राप्ति होती है। वह महान्‌ आत्मज्ञान ही सुख-दुःख आदि द्वद्धोंसे छुटकारा दिलानेका साधन है, वही सिद्धि है, जो काल (मृत्यु)-को भी लाँघ जानेवाली है

jñānena kurute yatnaṃ yatnena prāpyate mahat | mahad dvandva-pramokṣāya sā siddhir iyam atyagā ||

ಜನಕನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಮುಕ್ತಿಗಾಗಿ ಯತ್ನಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ; ಆ ಯತ್ನದಿಂದ ‘ಮಹತ್’—ಅಂದರೆ ಮಹತ್ತಾದ ಆತ್ಮಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ಕಾರ—ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಆ ಮಹತ್ತಾದ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ಕಾರವೇ ಸುಖ-ದುಃಖಾದಿ ದ್ವಂದ್ವಗಳಿಂದ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಗೊಳಿಸುವ ಸಾಧನ; ಅದೇ ಕಾಲವನ್ನು—ಅಂದರೆ ಮರಣವನ್ನು—ಸಹ ಅತಿಕ್ರಮಿಸುವ ಸಿದ್ಧಿ.
